Mom be jealous!

We just had a Lady come into the shop and tell us it was the best pie she ever had. I'm not sure it is as good as my mom's pie but I think it might be.

Go Matt GO!!!

Kings Court Pastry Boutique cookies are going to the Olympics!!!!

A little piece of Clarington and a whole lot of heart is heading to the Olympic Games in Vancouver, disguised as custom made sugar cookies, or more affectionately know as ‘Race Cookies’. Saturday, they will make their way to the bottom of the snowboarding hill and be presented to one of the worlds best and local snowboarding sensation, Matt Morison.

The journey of the Race Cookies started when Deb Patrick walked into Kings Court Pastry Boutique in Bowmanville and asked if pastry chef, Lisa Schroeder, known for her custom made cookies, could make 5 dozen of them, especially for Matt. “Game On!” replied Lisa and asked Deb, ‘Why cookies?’ The story Deb told was amazing.

“Well, I have known Matt since he was about 12. He boarded with a bunch of local kids, including my daughter Meghan. All of us mothers affectionately became known as ‘The Pot Luck Mom’s’. We would all make sure that the kids were looked after and would take turns feeding them lunch after boarding. After lunch, they would get cookies we had made. Race cookies. After Matt made the National Team, we became the World Cup Pot Luckers!" said Deb, smiling at the memory. “So, when we decided to go out to Vancouver I though, why not take some Race Cookies with me and give them to Matt and his friends at the medal ceremony at the bottom of the hill on Saturday!”

Incredible. Truly incredible!

I have to tell you, this has been one jam packed action filled month, not only from a business point of view but personally as well! In one month we placed second in the Polar Chili competition, catered to rock star extrodinare, Steven Page and now our custom made sugar cookies are headed to the Olympics in Vancouver to be presented to snowboarder Matt Morison at the bottom of a mountain. Hopefully, he will have a cookie in one hand and a gold medal in the other!!! GO MATT GO!!!

Until next time!

We Cater to Rock Stars!!

Yes, you read the title correctly! Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week, we fed Steven Page (formerly of Barenaked Ladies) and his studio musicians while he recorded tracks for his newest CD! What a fantiastic group of people!!! They LOVED our food, which our Head Chef Craig Baxter, I will tell you more about him in a sec, prepared especially for Steven. We did some customized salads for their lunch each day and made sure that dinner was not just 'food' but an 'experience' each evening. I would get the 'thumbs up' each day when I went in. I even took dog treats for his dogs. How could I feed the humans and not the dogs too??!!

I have to tell you what a personal thrill it was to hear the amazing voice of Steven Page filling the studio. I have always been a fan. I am even more so now. Highlight of the 3 days... I had a song stuck in my head all night Wednesday night. I walk in with lunch on Thursday. Steven launched into the most amazingly beautiful acoustic version of the song that is stuck in my head!!!!! Weirdest, but one of the most spectacular moments of my life!!!

Of course we could NOT tell you what we were up to until the gig was finished. We understand the need for privacy and confidentiality while the cater is happening. It is part of the professionalizm here at Kings Court and I still will not disclose the location.

Oh, here are some Head Chef Craig Baxter Facts!!

Did you know that Craig fed the crews for all 3 Lord of the Rings Movies, shot in New Zealand?

Did you know that he fed the crew on the set of King Kong?

Did you know that there are more movies he has worked on and will remind me of them after he reads this? *grin*

Did you know that he has worked all over the world and we are lucky enough to have him here, creating one 'of a kind dishes' that will have your taste buds BEGGING for more?

So my Blogging Friends, call us for your next occasion and you can tell everyone that your caterer has connections to the "STARS"!!!

Until next time,
Karen

Gift Show Here we come

One part of our Pastry Boutique is the giftware. We try and offer an unique offering of giftware that relates to food...because after all isn't it always about the food. So, Kathy, Tracy and Danielle are off to the Big Gift Show in Toronto. If you have any requests make sure you see one of them as they are always wanting to make you happy. We'll probably see people like Ron and Joan Hooper of www.hoopersjewellers.com there as well as Joan of www.villagegiftshoppe.ca . All of these people have been so supportive with our new venture. If you are into the shop say hi to Lori. She started a week ago and is a great addition to our staff.

It's hard to believe that January is almost over but already the summer is looking like we will be attend to many of your weddings. Sure catering to corporate functions are nice but it is down right exciting to be part of weddings.

Soup, Soup and More Soup

Wow, has life been busy at our little pastry shop...and as you know one thing leads to another. We sold a lot of soup at Watson Farms this summer www.watsonfarms.ca so Kathy decided to have her gourmet soup for sale at our new shop. Well if you have tasted her soups you can guess how popular they are! The good folks at Halenda's Meats in Oshawa and Whitby www.halendasmeats.com have selected our soups to sell in their stores. What a privilege to sell our product in such an award winning store. They are carrying 4 flavours:

Moroccan Chicken - A Glutton Free, Tomato based soup uniquely flavoured with cinnamon of all things. This receipt came from Chef Craig who cheffed on the other side of the world.

Smoked Bacon and Corn Chowder - The soup that started us producing soup for you to enjoy at home.

Local Beef and Barley Soup - Agriculture is one of Durham regions biggest industries, why not support them. This soup is hardy and will stick to your ribs, great on a cold day.

And..

Our signature Roasted Garlic Butternut Squash Soup - I can't believe the amount of Squash that goes into this soup but Our Executive Chef Kathy says, "If you going to make soup, make it the best" and I think she has.
